Wind Industry:

The Wind industry is environmentally friendly and is beneficial to a wide spectrum of people, including farmers in the country areas, ordinary electricity users, and clean air lovers.

Economically the industry has great potential in providing jobs and construction opportunities for local communities and in the long term is a viable alternative to the current energy supply regimes.

Wind resource is natural, free and the cheapest amongst all renewable sources of energy, it is endless and at present is untapped. According to a number of scientific assessments the world's wind resources are 53,000 Terawatt hours per year spread across all continents. This is much more than the world's present total electricity consumption, however at the present time the total power generated from wind is a very small portion of the total generation.

The rate of growth of this industry is over 30% per year, but there is still a long way to go.

European countries like Germany, Spain and Denmark have taken the lead in developing this industry. Australia is a vast country and has an excellent wind resource, but it is yet to secure its place as a leader in the industry. Recent figures indicate that more than 95% of Australians favour renewable energy developments such as Wind Farms; a very favourable perspective for the industry.

Electricity price in Australia is the cheapest amongst the OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development) countries. In other OECD countries wind is competing with other resources. In Australia the price gap is narrowing. Advancement of turbine technology and utilisation of bigger and better turbines, economies of scale in larger wind farms, along with rapid increase of fossil fuel prices world wide will help to close the price gap rather soon. With all these elements in action it is expected that by 2020 more than 12% of the world electricity needs will be supplied from wind. Consuming any electricity produced by renewable resources abates producing the same amount of electricity by polluting resources, helping to reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases.
